How to Use InstrumentaList's Curator Database to Find Your Perfect Playlist Matches

The InstrumentaList Curator Database is one of the platform's most powerful tools for Artist PRO and A-List PRO subscribers. It gives you direct access to a growing database of verified instrumental music curators - including contact information, playlist details, follower counts, and submission preferences - outside of InstrumentaList's own internal network.

Here is how to use it effectively.

What's in the Curator Database

Each curator record in the database includes:

  • Curator name and playlist name - who they are and what they curate
  • Platform - Spotify, Apple Music, or both
  • Genre and sub-genre - the specific musical territory they cover
  • Follower count - the size of the audience you are reaching
  • Contact method - email, Instagram DM, submission form, or other
  • Verified contact information - email addresses and Instagram handles that have been confirmed as active
  • Activity status - whether the curator is actively updating their playlist

Step 1: Filter for Your Sound

Start by filtering the database by genre and instrument. If you make solo piano music, filter for piano. If you make ambient or atmospheric music, filter for ambient. The database is organized specifically around the sonic categories that matter for instrumental music.

Narrow further by follower count if needed. A curator with 2,000 followers who is actively updating their playlist and responding to submissions is often more valuable than one with 20,000 followers who has not updated in six months.

Step 2: Unlock Curator Contacts

Artist PRO subscribers can unlock a set number of curator contacts per month. Each unlock gives you the verified contact information for that curator - email, Instagram, or submission link depending on what is available.

Unlocked contacts are saved to your account, so you are building a permanent outreach list that grows every month.

Step 3: Research Before You Reach Out

Before contacting any curator, spend time with their playlist. Listen to five or six tracks. Understand the mood, the tempo range, the production aesthetic. If your music genuinely fits, make sure your pitch reflects that you have done this listening.

If you are using One-Click Pitch™, the AI does this analysis for you and incorporates playlist-specific context into each generated pitch automatically.

Step 4: Make Contact

Send your pitch through the curator's preferred contact method. Keep it short: what the track sounds like, why it fits their specific playlist, a streaming link, and a simple ask.

Step 5: Track and Follow Up

Keep a record of who you have contacted and when. If you have not heard back in two weeks, one polite follow-up is appropriate. After that, move on - but keep the contact in your database for your next release.

Curators who do not respond to one submission may respond positively to a different track six months later. The relationship is long-term.
