The First 48 Hours: What to Do the Moment Your Track Goes Live

The First 48 Hours: What to Do the Moment Your Track Goes Live

You have spent weeks or months writing, recording, and preparing your release. The track is finally live on Spotify and Apple Music. What you do in the next 48 hours has an outsized impact on whether it gains playlist momentum or stalls.

Here is the playbook.

Hour 0-2: Submit to Spotify for Artists

If you have not already submitted your track to Spotify's editorial team through Spotify for Artists, do it immediately. Ideally this happens a week before release, but if you missed that window, submit now. Even if you do not land an editorial placement, the metadata helps Spotify's algorithm understand where your music fits.

Hour 2-12: Pitch Your Curator List

This is where most independent artists lose momentum. They release the track and then start thinking about who to pitch. By then, 12 hours have passed and the initial energy of the release is already fading.

The artists who get results have their curator list ready before release day. If you have been building relationships over time, this is when you send personalized pitches to the curators who know you.

If you do not have a curator list yet, this is where the Jumpstart Pack changes the game. It gives you 400 verified curator contacts in a ready-to-use CSV - so on release day, you are pitching, not researching. One-time purchase, instant download, no subscription required.

Hour 12-24: Use One-Click Pitch for Volume

Personalized pitches get the best response rates, but they take time. If you have a large curator list, use InstrumentaList's One-Click Pitch tool to generate tailored pitches for each curator automatically. This lets you reach dozens of curators in the time it would normally take to write three or four manual pitches.

The goal in the first 24 hours is to get your track in front of as many relevant curators as possible while the release is fresh.

Hour 24-48: Engage Your Existing Audience

While curator pitches are landing, make sure your existing audience knows the track is out. Share it on social media, send it to your email list, and post it wherever your listeners already are.

The saves and streams from your existing audience in the first 48 hours send a signal to Spotify's algorithm that the track is worth surfacing. This is what triggers Discover Weekly and Release Radar placements in the days that follow.

Hour 48+: Follow Up and Track

After 48 hours, shift into tracking mode. Which curators opened your pitch? Which playlists added your track? Which playlists drove the most new listeners?

Use this data to refine your approach for the next release. The curators who responded well to this track are the ones to prioritize for your next one.

Prepare Before You Release

The common thread across every step is preparation. The artists who execute well in the first 48 hours are the ones who had their curator list, their pitch templates, and their audience plan ready before the track went live.

If you are preparing a release and do not yet have a curator list, get the Jumpstart Pack - 400 verified contacts, one-time purchase, ready to pitch on day one. Use code JUMPSTART for 50% off.

InstrumentaList helps independent artists execute a strong release strategy with curator submissions, One-Click Pitch tools, and the Jumpstart curator pack.
